What is your cooking background?
I first started cooking when I was 14 years old. I have always had a taste for diverse, experimental dishes, so when I came to the realization that I going out to eat on a regular basis is not sustainable, I decided to bring the restaurant to me by learning to cook and experiment with a variety of ingredients and cuisines. I gained inspiration and technique from the Food Network and Cooking channels, as well as by Googling and watching Youtube videos. The more I exposed myself to cooking with specific ingredients and techniques, the more confidence I gained in the kitchen. I soon became my family's personal chef, cooking meals for them throughout the week when I have some spare time.
I rarely ever fully rely on recipes, instead I measure with my heart and substitute ingredients with what I have when its needed. I enjoy collecting inspiratons from recipes I find online or in cookbooks, but I find the most enjoyment in using what I have on hand to create my own recipes and takes on classic dishes.
Because I am away at college, I have less time to gather ingredients to create recipes or complex meals. Instead, I spend some of the time I have on weekends exploring Baltimore by dining at some of the best restaurants that Baltimore has to offer. In my 4 years at Loyola, I've enjoyed many restaurants in the city that I am excited to share on this website.
